BOUCLÉME Travel Kit Review

The entire Boucleme range contains 0% sulphates, silicones, mineral oils, petroleum, propylene glycol, PEGs, parabens, and artificial fragrances and colours.

A new higher end brand of curl products that have had wide media coverage in fashion magazines and online. Pretty branding that really fits in with the spring and upcoming summer, BOUCLEME is simplistic and is targeting a ready British, curly haired consumer public. Over in the UK we lack, compared to the US, curly hair products that really have the right ingredients to suit our hair. That is where BOUCLEME comes in and boasts:

Our products are packed with high performance actives that restore moisture and life to dry lacklustre hair.

They claim in their Mission, that they know the difficulties and and what curly hair requires… this really resonated with me and i am sure it will with others, its great when a brand knows what you want. Alternatively We have some gems but not a wide enough selection for my likes, I really dislike having to hunt for US imports… the worst are the prices. Thankfully we have the Curly Emporium, supplied to us by the wonderful people from BRITISH CURLIES, who are helping the curly community, here in the UK who are seeking for higher quality products. Now i bought this travel kit as tester, all 3 of the products retail at £15 each, a price i wanted to be sure was worthwhile and so here is my review, which is pretty paradoxial

 CURL CLEANSER:

non-foaming curl cleansing cream cleanses the scalp and hair without upsetting the natural moisture balance.

Our special blend of argan, virgin coconut oil, honey, aloe vera, linseed and pomegranate extracts nourish and moisturise the hair cuticle from the inside out. Our natural revitalising fragrance of citrus, spearmint and magnolia leaf will leave your hair clean, fresh, fragrant and hydrated.

I don’t really know how I feel about cleaners, but this one wasn’t one for me. On first use, i liked the way this felt. But ever since its been like washing greasy hair, with grease… Not that it was slippery. no, it was uncomfortable to use and i dreaded using it. While it was not stripping, it was not cleaning either, my hair felt really horrible after, especially when applying the conditioner next, i’ll get to that next but I doubt i’ll be touching this cleasner anytime soon.

CURL CONDITIONER:

Our super-hydrating curl conditioner is rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9, vitamin E and antioxidants to strengthen the hair and protect it from environmental stressors.

Our unique formulation penetrates deep into the hair cuticle, using virgin coconut, argan oil and aloe vera leaf actives to replenish much-needed moisture and bring shine to dull dry curls.

A seemingly soft, creamy texture, this conditioner, when applied to wet hair becomes stiff and unpleasant to work with. On first use it was like this and its never changed, no matter how much i apply, it just smells unwelcoming and there is no slip, making washing my hair not a fun thing to do.I was confused that a conditioner would feel this way. However, paradoxically, when i styled and diffused my hair this gave a real nice shine and definition, along with the curl defining gel. I was pretty confused, and so i still sometimes use this, but just apply a lot more of my kinky curly leave in, which gives me the slip i want/need.

CURL DEFINING GEL:

Our moisturising gel smoothes and defines curls without flaking or stickiness.

The last of the trio, and a real mixed bag. Described as a GEL i found this way too watery, In looking at the quote above, this does give a no stickiness, so if this something you look for, this could be better suited to you! I did like that aspect of the gel, but it just didn’t click for me….again this wasn’t too fun to work with and its only when dried does the pay off show. Strangely i felt this dried my hair, even though, beforehand i apply my kinky curly leave in..

RESULTS AND FINAL THOUGHTS:

These pictures i took after the FIRST time i used all the products together. I had the same thoughts but my hair ended up looking really nice..which did surprise me! In the end these product are good for those curly girls who are wanting as natural as possible products to style their hair, even the smell is ‘natural?’ not the best IMO but it does give great results, but for me personally i’ll be going down a different route, using different products because i want my hair to feel good when wet and not just look good when dry! So if you are looking for the above features, in an all natural products aimed for curly girls, give the travel kit a whirl, its worth it just so you know wether or not they are right for you, as i really believe it is an individual preference, as i’ve seen other great reviews.

  1. Hi Emma, thanks for your review of our range. Glad your hair looked nice in the end. Our products use ingredients that penetrate into the hair shaft so are less film forming than the products you’re used to. Products with lots of slip can detangle but don’t always moisturise curls. Thanks again Michele

    1. Hi Michele! Thank you for replying, its made me understand the range more, and realise the products would probably benefit my hair in the long run. Thanks again for commenting! 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for your review! I am trying to find some good products for my curls – since they are super dry (ever since I stayed in NY for 6 months), and I don’t know what to do with them anymore haha! It is nice to read some honest reviews. Thank you! 🙂

    1. Thank you for your comment! Glad it could be of some help. I hope you find the right products for your hair, as I know it can be a lot of trial and error 🙂

      1. Haha I know – that’s the “fun” part about having curls. I ordered some products from BC – and so far they seems good, let’s hope it stays that way lol! Have a lovely week ahead.
